They are helping to fill labor shortages on America’s farms, starting businesses that employ US workers, and developing the cutting-edge products that make America the world’s preeminent innovation hub. This map is a survey of just some of the research on how immigrants are making an impact in each of the 50 states.

This map also shows how immigrants’ entrepreneurial spirit is driving economic growth in some states, and making small but growing contributions in others. Across the country, immigrants started businesses at much higher rates than the native-born, and immigrants had higher rates of business ownership overall. In many cases, immigrants or their children founded some of each state’s largest and most iconic companies. In each case, immigrant businesses are adding economic value and creating jobs for Americans.
